National Music Centre

National Music Centre of Canada / Calgary, AB

In their new home at Studio Bell, the Canadian National Music Centre preserves and celebrates Canada’s musical legacy and inspires a new generation of music lovers through education programs, performances, artist incubation and exhibitions.

For this project, RLMG was challenged to create visitor experiences that capture the excitement of going to a music festival, discovering new artists, mastering an instrument, and celebrating with friends. Our work ranges from gallery-sized media presentations to individual, highly interactive music-making stations.

Soundscapes Stage
Multiple projectors, full-height printed graphics and a multi-channel sound system immerse visitors in music and landscapes that are uniquely Canadian. The 12-minute continuously looping program creates an ever-changing collage of projected and printed elements taken from Canada’s landscapes synched to an original mash-up of 30 songs.

Vocal Booths
Using advanced audio processing software and a responsive interface, visitors see how well they stay on pitch as they belt out their favorite songs inside studio-grade, soundproof performance booths.

Mixing Board
RLMG created interactive stations where visitors use professional audio hardware to remix the original studio masters of several popular Canadian songs.
