Experiencing the Magic of Music

For Calgary’s National Music Centre, RLMG created immersive soundscapes, interactive recording booths, and professional-grade mixing stations that engage visitors in music creation and discovery. Located in Studio Bell, the Centre set out to capture the excitement of experiencing live music, discovering new artists, and playing an instrument. We brought this vision to life through 15 stations across five galleries where visitors explore Canadian music through memory, shared experiences, and hands-on interaction.

Drop In Zone & Soundscapes Stage

The Drop In Zone, a large display off the lobby, visitors can explore current exhibitions, see the day’s schedule, and plan their visit. Using our custom content management system, staff can make updates easily, keeping content fresh.

For Soundscapes Stage, we produced a fully immersive tapestry of Canadian music and imagery, featuring a sequence of large-scale animations inspired by Canada’s signature landscapes, and an original mash-up of 30 popular Canadian songs. The effect is transportive, drawing visitors together in reflection of a uniquely Canadian environment.

Mixing Board & Learn to Play

Mixing Board uses real mixing hardware, visitors manipulate the volume, tone, and reverb of popular Canadian songs. As they make adjustments, an ambient visualization responds in real-time.

Across multiple interactive stations, visitors discover the joy of playing music through step-by-step tutorials. From electric guitar and drums to acoustic guitar and electric piano, Learn to Play offers options for everyone.

I’ve never seen an installation quite like this. I love the fact that it surrounds you, I love the fact that the visuals and audio are blended together perfectly and so artfully and seamlessly. It’s beautiful.
